Frequently asked Questions

What type of shoes should I wear?
This will be a compromise. Road or light trail shoes are recommended, although there are some grass/mud tracks. There are no steep or slippery ascents/descents except for the first and last couple of miles to and from the Leighton Centre. Much of the course is on gravel or hard tracks.
Have you any recommendations for clothing?
The route is very exposed to the wind, so will be much colder than around the Start/Finish area. Probably there will be a headwind from the west for the last ten miles, so it is recommended that extra clothing, such as a jacket, be carried.
What can I expect to find at the checkpoints?
Only water and jelly babies will be at the checkpoints. It is recommended that you carry your own food and special drinks.
Will the route be marshalled?
No! Basically you need to self navigate this route. However that is not difficult. We strongly recommend that you download the detailed route notes we have made. There are also maps for each of the stages between checkpoints. But the main help on the day will be the metal green Imber Range Perimeter Path signs with their distinctive cannons (photo on the right on the home page). The event will not be a route finding challenge, it is just the remoteness of some parts of the course means it is not practicable as well as not necessary to sign and marshal the complete course with the small race team we have.
There are various signs which you can follow and there will be a few marshals.
What about emergency help during the event?
St John Ambulance will be present throughout the event.
